Friend Friday: Success!

Hi guys! Happy Friday! It's really hot here in Melbourne (AGAIN), so while I write you another Friend Friday post, I've got some HOT photos from around my town!

Here's the post from Katy at Modly Chic:

As I was reading through everyone's new years resolutions and where they want their blogs to be I got to thinking how easy it is to become discouraged by some of the very successful blogs out there, or the ones we perceive as successful. We compare ourselves and suddenly find that we are lacking. So this week we are going to be talking about that.

1. Have you ever looked at someone's blog and thought yours will never measure up?

Oh man, I look at a lot of blogs: crafty, fashion, food, flowers, writers, photography, illustration (and that's just the past week). I get inspired and I love heaps what I see, but I don't really care where my blog 'fits' into all this, so don't really ever consider that I 'measure' up. We're all different, in style, as people, as personalities: there's no way I feel less or more than any of you bloggers; you're all different, individual and amazing because of that.

 2. Do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined standard for fashion bloggers?

Nup, I choose my own standards. A couple years ago, I was like: I need to take better photos, I'm too lazy. So I practiced and took heaps of photos (and have a Husband who's a photographer/cinematographer/film colourist) and then got better with critique. But I thought I needed to get better for me, for myself. I like to set my own standards and challenges.

 3. Many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers, bakers, and crafty people. Do you think you need to combine all of these things to be successful at blogging?

I can recall a conversation a while back, and I think it was on a fashion blog (and Outfit a Day type blog - sorry I can't remember which one!) about how there was a need to 'define' blogs, and especially to define what type of fashion blog you were (vintage, rockabilly, girly, or whatever else). I'm not really into calling myself a fashion blog or a craft blog (I did have 'crafty adventures' as my title initially as I knew I needed a focus to blog - it's a long boring story, but I was once an academic who wrote about hypertext theory, so blogging for me was very dry and formal... I needed a different angle) so to be many things online (bakers, crafty, DIY stuff) is just who I am in real life. I'm not just a girl who works in radio for a day job. I'm someone who loves radio, loves narrative and storytelling, loves making clothes, loves making foodz, loves decorating the house, etc etc etc. We are all different things. And we are all also successful, so I think the best success is to be true to you. (PLEASE DON'T READ THIS AS A SELF HELP BOOK, I'm starting to think we need to call the Buddhist or Taoist Police as I misquote philosophies all over the place!)

4. The most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal voice - how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours?

Oh this is a GREAT question! Awesome! Now I'm kinda excited about the topic, and promise no more snarky self help stuff! I found my voice by having a goal to blog about the stuff I make. I was sewing for about 4 years before I started blogging, and everyone would always talk about my clothes to me at work and when I went out. So after googling some sewing techniques, I saw heaps of you guys were starting to blog about sewing too, or fashion and fun things... so finally I had a purpose to write about and through this, I found my voice.

You could probably sift through some of my earlier posts (and I've left them there because I can't believe how much I've evolved online! I did think to delete them, and I was like 'who cares if I was kinda fucky and dorky at the start?', it's kinda funny now! I have always been very self conscious about what I write online (because I studied writing online, and had my own philosophies and theories about what 'electronic writing' was and meant in the world)... but now because I had a purpose and a focus on talking about clothes, it just kinda evolved naturally. I'm comfortable now.

5. Toot your own horn... what's one thing you do that is unique to you and your blog? What gives your blog an edge?

TOOT! YAY! Ummmmmmm, these days I like my photos (because they've improved so much) but as for 'edge' ... maybe I'm a DIY fashion blogger who's focused on being sustainable and green conscious in the world. (I've just read a great blog post from Zoe over at 'So Zo', so quite inspired at the moment)

I don't know, and perhaps I don't really care. Is that bad? I'm really silly at these questions! Perhaps I'm offering a different angle on things (like these questions)? I don't mean to be arrogant (like, I don't care about anything), but I just think I'm not 'In it to win it'... I'm not here to have heaps of fun, and hang out with like minded people... if that's cool with you! Speaking of cool, I'm so not cool... it's still freaking hot (and it's 8.30pm!) and let me check the current temp... it's freaking still 31 degrees! ICK!

After just eating my salad for tea and listening to the AMAZINGLY voiced guy from The National (going to see them on Monday night!), I'm going to watch some Project Runway episodes and maybe even sew something! YAY!

Oh! Almost forgot the next hot dog photo, wearing matching scarves dipped in cool water:

Friend Friday: Christmas Time

I haven't done a 'Friend Friday' blog post for a while (even though I started the 'party fash' one last week, but only wrote half a sentence... and then had to go to a party!), but if you're hanging out around blogland these days, 'Friend Friday' is a regular weekly blog post started over at Katy's Modly Chic that heaps of fash peeps contribute to. Anyone can join too!

So, here's today's questions:

Let's make this one a little more fun than some of our other question sets....it's about HOLIDAYZ. Our family kinda celebrates Christmas. I say kinda, because there are no kids, no grandkids, and we're all sloshy adults who sometimes do Kris Kringle, and sometimes don't care about anything other than eating delish foods.

Hmmm, I may be a bit dorky when it comes to these questions, sometimes I hate the modern Christmas time so much. This year I've taken a few deep breaths and have got off the soapbox. (I usually moan about consumerism and waste, but have been very minimal in my present buying and even though I hadn't the time to make things, I did take time to consider what I was buying.)

1. Your favorite holiday memory:

We had a lot of Christmases in caravans when I was little, as my Nanna and Pop lived in a caravan park and we'd go visit them. They were always fun with mini Christmas trees, but I reckon all childhood Christmases were fun!

2. Were you ever a victim of those family Christmas party photo shoots? What do you think about them now? Care to share an old photo?

Eep, I'm not really sure what this means. We take photos, yep, in our family, but not too sure what the family party photo shoot is. I'm lost!

3. Best Christmas gift you ever gave:

I gave my Dad a year of sponsoring an Orangutang at Melbourne Zoo one year, and he adored it. He kept the photo of the darling creature on the fridge, and it was almost as close as the real thing.

4. Craziest/funniest holiday family tradition:

Santa leaves chocolates all over the house in little bowls, so when you walk around there's always tiny treats everywhere. Also Santa sometimes puts more chocolates on the tree AFTER Christmas too! OMG!

5. Favorite type of Christmas cookie:

Um... not too sure what choices there are? Does this mean something like shortbread? My family aren't really traditional with food choices, for example we usually have seafood and heaps of salads. I am usually vegetarian, but become good old Vege-quarian at Christmas/Holiday time, because my Dad is a die hard when it comes to fish and cooking it. He has 3 kinds of fish tomorrow, plus prawns, plus oysters.

Yay! Decorations! Happy Christmas Eve, and happy holiday time to all you guys!

Friend Friday: Copy Cats

Every Friday, Modly Chic poses a thought/topic/group of questions and it's a meme called Friend Friday. It's kinda fun because on Fridays it's really nice to have a structure to what to post about and there's several other bloggers (that I follow) who are doing it, and I like seeing likeminded peeps write about stuff etc.

This week's Friend Friday therefore, as written her by Katy at Modly Chic:

This past week I encountered the topic of blogger copying twice. The first time was as I scrolled through the numerous bloggers doing the 30 for 30 challenge. I realized that after one person poses with an umbrella dozens others will. Or as Kendi poses in a parking garage suddenly 20 other bloggers appear in a parking garage. And then I was talking with Kinsey about some of favorite blogs and she mentioned seeing a blogger post a DIY recipe and two weeks later another blogger posted a very similar DIY recipe complete with the same wrappings. That got me thinking... how much of blogging is coming up with your own content and how much is mirroring what we see others doing?

Ok, so before I go on, I want to say: You may not really get what Katy is talking about above, sorry if it's confusing (Kendi? Kinsey? They are bloggers I'm assuming, and fashion ones perhaps). But I am also a little sickie. So this may come as a shock to you but I almost couldn't be fucked with this topic, and pretty much was just going to post the words:

Zeitgeist and Collective Consciousness

Because I've lived a bit of this kinda 'meme' stuff over the years where you think and do something at exactly the same time as someone else around the world thinks and does that too. We are humans and we do that for loads of reasons. BUT, then I thought I should be not grumpy and sickie and rude, and show you some 'nature' photos and answer the questions so you can see what I'm thinking! Buckle in peeps! These are photos from my parents place in the country too btw:

1. What are the 'unwritten rules' about copying content that we bloggers should all abide by?

I'm only ever going to speak for myself, because we're all individuals, but I don't copy content, and if when referring to blogs and photographs and other content, I linky dink back to it. However, I'm not sure posing in a parking garage or posing with an umbrella (aren't most of you in the Northern Hemisphere, where it's potentially raining?) could be called copying content. Hence my zeitgeist thought. But for me, I'm not really interested in looking at blogs and copying; I look at blogs and think wow, how inspiring!

2. They say imitation is the highest form of flattery. But when it a post imitation and when is it copying?

I really love some blogs, and how they inspire me to try new things or do new things. When I first looked at The Freelancer's Fashionblog, I was like 'How does she make her hair go like that?', then read that she does pin curls, then looked at 500 youtubes on how to set your hair in pin curls, and now I do that, and am so happy with my hair. When I first started blogging, I clicked onto Nikkishell's blog somehow, and saw her group the Wardrobe Refashion, and I loved how she was making clothes from op shop things (just like me) and I was like WOW, I'm connected to a whole different community. None of this is copying, it's just being inspired. I guess it's the content and photography stuff these questions are talking about though.

3. Taking another blogger's idea (perhaps for an outfit, or DIY tutorial) is pretty common in the blogging world. Do you think it is necessary to credit the original source?

I rarely look at a bloggers outfit to replicate it. I see fashion on the street all the time and love it, but I don't think "I have to get that whole look". I gather up ideas and styles and things that suit me. As for DIY tutorials and stuff, I always linky dink to things I see and make from online! The other day I was talking about how I love the open source nature of the internetz, so will always credit someone's generousity and show you how I learnt to make it. That's why I show you the patterns I use to make stuff too!

4. How have you improved your blog by comparing it to other bloggers? Have you made changes due to something you have seen others doing?

I know I take better photos and care more about my photos because of other bloggers. I think over the past 4 years the online world has really sparked up their photos and amateur photographers are really GREAT photographers these days. So I'm totally into that. Also occasionally I get annoyed with the look of my blog, and I think I've evolved it at least once a year! Franca at Oranges and Apples is one of my bloggie friends that I admire, and we LOL-ed (over email!) the other day how we both update at the same time. She's a darling, and I love how realistic she is about blogging and can be quite revealing, which I guess I try to be too. Oh, and recently I saw Vanessa at The Velvet Bird updated her blog/look, with a cute banner, and I drew up (by hand) something kinda like hers, but totally created by me, and when I put it up there (on the blog), I mailed Vanessa and told her she was an inspiration for me. She wrote something cute back in return, because she's a darling.

 5. Have you ever had one of your posts copied by another blogger or publication? How did you handle the situation?

Nup. Not sure what I'd do. Perhaps get grumpy? Probably not. It makes me think about copyrighting somewhere on my blog about my photos. I'd hate to see a photo of mine pop up somewhere as someone else's photo.

These questions make me think that originality is key.

Now, this photo is original. Do I hear anyone wanting to replicate or copy this look? No one? WHY NOT IT'S HAWT!

P.s. when you're in the country you can wear whatever you like and nature finds you attractive.

xoxo

Friend Friday: Blogger Self Promotion

Friend Friday has come around again, happy Friday to you all! Yippee! Today's post is also accompanied by my collection of coffee photos using the hipstermatic app on the iphone! Each morning (now that I'm working 9 to 5) I've got a delish flat white coffee! YUM!

The topic for this week: Blogger Self Promotion

1. How do you promote your blog?

Self promotion isn't at the top of my mind usually, so let me have a little think about what I do. I do have my blog linked to my facebook account, via Networked Blogs (I think it is) and via my twitter. These accounts are run by me and I only post once a day (if that) and sometimes tweet when I feel like it. I'm not a huge/active promoter of the blog, I just like posting and hearing from you guys and looking at your blogs. I suppose being on places like Burda, Ravelry and Wardrobe Refashion or Sew Retro has some promotional things, since I know a lot of you guys hang out around there too, but I don't really tend to be 'in your face' over those sites anyways!

2. In your experience what has been the most effective form of self promotion?

If I were actively blogging for my day job, I'd probably spend more time online and honing particular parts of the blog (tutorials, giveaways, more structure I guess), with the aim to offer 'something for nothing' and then perhaps become an expert in sewing or something and then get blog sponsorship. But I'd probably (if doing this for my day job) be selling my clothes online too.

As for now though, I like the internet to be a shared place, a 'free source' of information, so I just like talking to you guys without any other reason as to say 'Here's what I've been up to' and 'Wow, sewing's fun, and it saves you money and you look like a true individual when you make your own clothes'. I'm not interested in this becoming my day job at all, with no intention to make money from the site. I like Gertie's New Blog for Better Sewing, because it's really clear and has a purpose (and I think she'll be writing books soon too) and she's just blogging, sharing and (seemingly) caring about her readership. I really like that way of self promotion, creating a conversation and it's a 2 way conversation.

3. Do you think there is a wrong way to promote yourself and your blog?

Marketing, publicity, promotions are all real jobs, and there are clever ways to manage and clever ways to advertise. Considering people can study these fields for 4 years and work in these industries, I reckon DIY blog promotion can be done pretty badly and there are certainly wrong wasy to promote yourself. For me, I click through heaps of blogs and often only really settle when the voice is clear to me on who you are, or if I like your style/theme/outlook on the world. If it matches mine, I usually hang out on your blog more.

Personally, I connect with more honest blogs and I love the sustainability/vintage loving/crafty world. So if you're doing that kinda stuff, I'll probably like it. If you're being over the top (and I think that's where this Question is meant to head), emailing me about your blog, or your etsy shop (and honestly, this hasn't really happened to me) and overly obvious about wanting followers or needy in any way, then I'm gonna steer clear. Your blog is a living thing (LOL - someone told me this, and I laugh everytime I think it) and you need to nurture it slowly and it'll blossom... you need to put in the effort slowly and organically and they (the readers I assume, not rats like the Pied Piper or anything) will come. LOLZ

4. When is comes to others pushing their product what annoys you?

Jeepers, I get annoyed by being negative about people. But if I really think about it, I get annoyed with fake yuck websites wanting me to review or do a blog post about their site or product. One website emailed me about the 'great offer' (which I ignored) and then emailed several other times checking I understood the 'great offer' and it was about me reviewing bar stools. Why would I do that? Why would I care about a consumeristic weird website and about a product that I do not care about, nor has anything to do with my blog.

That's what annoys me the most. But realistically, I'm smiling as I write that because I'm totally not really annoyed about anything, since the internet is usually wonderful and you can ignore the shit stuff. I usually don't take anything on board, so am not really annoyed.

5. In Dressful's post on this topic earlier in the week she said, "It's impossible to respect someone who wants all the attention, but adds nothing worthwhile to the conversation." Do you agree?

Yep, pretty much, as I love the conversation of crafty/sewing/fash blogs. But there's some blogs I love who don't really say much at all... like Small Stump's blog where there's nothing but simplicity and you can see it's just 'Look at what I made' kinda gentle blogging. OMG I sound like a total hippy, "Let your blog organically grow" "kind, gentle blogging"... I think this topic has made me go crazy, obviously I don't really care about promotion that much! Be nice to each other, that's all! xoxo

Friend Friday: The Great Unwashed

Here's another Friend Friday post, Yay!

1. The move to do away with soap, shampoo and deodorant has been growing in popularity in the last year. What are your thoughts on this trend?

The Great Unwashed is a fun title. I would be considered unwashed by some, and not by others, but because I'm conscious about consumerism and the environment, I think about this a fair bit. Over the past 10 years I reckon there has been a shift for me, and this could just be about growing up.

Overall between my groups of friends and what I see online, using products like shampoo and soaps etc is still commonplace, as I feel sometimes there's only a small minority who are the Great Unwashed, and it's still looked at as hippie-ish behaviour. But, as for my thoughts on the topic (as opposed to the trend) is YAY, less buying of products and making of the waste is a good thing.

2. Be honest how often do you wash your own hair?

Get ready peeps!

I just talked about my hair recently on this blog, and I'm always honest about things! I wash my hair once a week, usually on a Saturday so I can do pin curls. But back when I was growing up, I never really washed my hair a lot in high school, because of the curl and the frizz of it. Luckily though, it was the grunge era, so there were heaps of cool stories going around school how cute boys put toothpaste in their hair.

But growing up, I started to hate how the products made my hair so fly away and the products never did what they said they'd do (Frizz ease being the most obvious let down for me) and after that I became more and more skeptical about the whole beauty world, and the myths behind it.

Before I was platinum, I probably used to wash it a few times a week, and keep it longer when I had "good hair" days. But yeah, for the past 2 years I only wash once a week, and my hairdresser tells me this is best.

3. Have you tried to go the more natural route by forgoing shampoo? What happened? Or would you be tempted to try it?

I don't use shampoo at all, but I use conditioner once a week. Without shampoo my hair is fine, and extremely more manageable and better looking (!) than ever before. Personally, we all wash our hair way too much for our natural oils to balance out our hair, so I don't need shampoo to take more of my natural chemicals away.

4. What products do you use and have you ever gone with more organic alternatives?

I have used 'MOP' products before, which I think is an organic alternative for shampooing and conditioning, it was so beautiful and smelly! These days I just condition with something basic, wash myself with basic soaps, and use hair products that have a flexibility to keep my curls in. They are probably not organic or good for vegan use (I'm mostly a vegetarian, but opt for vegan products when I can. Beetle wings in my lipstick? No thanks). As for washing powder, I choose the 'green' version, but I don't really read up on what that means and probably should.

5. What about that daily shower? Would you forgo that opting to shower three times a week instead?

I really enjoy a daily shower, but a short one, no more than 4 mins. Sometimes (on weekends) I don't have one, just through laziness and running around or staying at home. But that's a whole different thing I reckon: giving up a daily shower.

Personally, I think a 6th question here would be apt, about clothes washing... at first glance I thought the 'Great Unwashed' was a little more a trend toward not washing your clothes as much. I wash undergarments after one wear, but for skirts, cardigans, dresses, jackets etc I often wear 10 times before washing it. Don't get me wrong, if it's dirty and I can see it's dirty, I wash it. But I personally think part of the consumer/domesticity of life of the 1950s and 60s created this false comfort of washing things... to buy things... to use things... therefore to be consumers.

We waste water and send chemicals off into the world when we wash our clothes and towels so much, so I tend to wait until the last minute to wash.

Hope you are enjoying your Friday! I'm out on the verandah, typing away, and enjoying the last flashes of sunlight. It's been such a lovely day in Melbs, I hope we can get outside tomorrow on our bikes!

Friend Friday: 10 Random Things

I'm finding Fridays for me is outta whack because of the timezones. Hence me posting again on Saturday about Friend Friday (a weekly dose of things or questions or themes to write about provided by Modly Chic). Having checked the email group on Friday at lunch, there weren't any questions or notes, so I only checked again when I got home and I was way too tired to post. My Fridays are generally workie and busy drinks and dinner out and cause I'm in MELBOURNE Australia my Friday is kinda over by the time the questions come through!

So for today:

Instead of questions on a specific topic share 10 random facts that people might be surprised to know about you. Take whatever spin you like on it.

My spin is 10 Random Things from my Facebook to share (because the photos are all ready to go!) so be prepared for loads of photos!

1. This was my Myspace Profile Pic, and was one of the first photos on my Facebook as well. It was a music festival in early 2007, and I made my dress and my Husbie's shirt so we looked original on the day and my highlight was watching Phoenix (the French band) who were totally the best of the fest that day.

2. I got this dress at a market in Sydney and it was such a beautiful day I got changed at the pub and wore it all afternoon. My Facebook album was something like 'Aqua Prom Queen Girl's Adventures' or something. Occasional extrovert? Not me. Sozz for the bad photo quality, it was on my dodgy work blackberry!

3. I have a nostalgic Facebook album and this is one of my little fash outfits! I love this because of the big camera, it must be a toy one right? And how cute is my brother, riding the bike and singing in the background?

4. When I look through my profile pics on facey, this darling friend Claire is in most of them with me! Here's our 'We look great in gingham!' photo from another music festival. Our friend Dan Boud took it for his blog, and you can see other great photos on his website!

5. When I lived in Sydney I walked over the Harbour Bridge one day, it was closed off the for the anniversary or something and we all walked where the cars usually go, so it was a really great perspective on the bridge and the city. It really is a beautiful looking city. BUT, my fave of all fave places are these weird little apartments that are right near the bridge cause they remind me of Star Wars somehow. I love them, so it did make my whole life to get my photo taken with them.

6. I did play netball when I was younger, but I was pretty shit. I had to do Wing Defence and I was really bad. But we did make it to the finals one time and got a trophy (I think we came runner ups) but our team was called Team Pash (hence the little red lips on my teammates skirt).

7. Also when I was little (um, 6 years ago) I sang in amateur musicals. Here I am in Little Shop of Horrors, which was hilarious and I spoke in a Brooklyn accent. A *bad* Brooklyn accent, I'm sure. I love singing, and used to be in heaps of plays when I lived in the country. How cute are the three singers as well? Such good voices!

8. Here's the time when Elmo came to my work in 2006. Very cute! This is in a Facebook album called 'Hilarious!' and you can totally see why.

9. I tried to find a Facebook photo from when I had different hair, since on this blog I've only really had blonde. Here's when I was in The Importance of Being Earnest, one of the best plays to perform because it's Oscar Wilde! So fun! I got my hair coloured almost black (brown with darker black 'peekaboo' streaks) to see what it was like, but I had to wear kinda pancake make up all the time, because it brought out loads of red blotches in my skin, weird! It took about a year to get it caramel blonde again.

10. And one last Facebook Random fact - I give my camera to little children for them to take photos. Digital cameras are so great for kids, cause they can see their photos straight away, and I love seeing things from their perspective. Look how cute this 3 year old (at our friend's wedding in northern NSW) framed this photo and how everyone looks giant in the background. So amazing.

Have a lovely weekend! xoxo

Friend Friday: Product Placement

It's my first Friend Friday and I missed it! 'Friend Friday' is something I found out about through Franca's Oranges and Apples blog, and it's a series of questions that Katy at Modly Chic sets for a group of bloggy peeps, and then they answer them via a post on Friday. EASY. I tend to get distracted easily by photos in my blog, and often don't talk that much here, so I wanted to *talk* a bit more and share things with you, so it seemed Friend Friday is appropriate to get me started.

Here's my Friend Friday (on a Saturday) and hopefully it'll be ok:

1. As we watched the Chilean Miners being rescued last week, there were many things to take note of - the amazing faith of these people, the joy of life, love and family, and - interestingly enough - product placement. As you watched the rescue efforts did you notice the products? What were your thoughts?

I only watched a few miners being rescued via ABC News 24 and didn't notice any product placement because ABC is our government funded broadcaster here in Australia, and not commercial in any way. I tend to watch ABC above all other TV channels because they have no advertising and have way better content. I did not notice any product placement on the ground, were they drinking cokes or gatorades?

2. Product placement is all around us today, what do you think makes it such a marketing gold mine?

Personally, I don't really pay attention and prefer to ignore advertising (although I love watching Mad Men! That's different!) as I tend to make my own buying choices. As for product placement and tailored advertising (my gmail account shows me travel sites when I'm emailing about Bali at the moment, as another example), it does register, but I am in no way going to buy a brand of watch just because James Bond wears it. (Does he even wear watches? I've never even seen a James Bond film properly - I skipped through Goldfinger once for work!) I feel independent about my consumerism and am quite measured about what I buy. For example, I got a new camera last week on a friend's recommendation (her Husbie is a photographer) as to what would suit me, and had seen no advertising (that I can recall) about the brand.

As for 'marketing gold mine', I think it's done for peeps to make money. Other people don't behave like me... I've seen people click on all the google ads while searching, instead of the actual pages, so I bet they see peeps eating chocolate bars in a film and want to eat the same one. I don't know.

3. On your blog, either now or in the future, what is/will be your stance on highlighting specific products?

At the moment, if I'm happy with something and it's blog related, I will tell you. Like my Melissa shoes this week, I love them (although I do have mini blisters today from wearing them in) and want to show you. I have never thought to take advertising or sponsors on my blog, but I don't really want to make it a money making thing, I blog because I love writing and taking photos and talking with peeps online and being part of a community. I have been offered to do reviews or blog posts (I actually can't recall what the product was, or who the companies were, but weren't really my scene) but I really like my independence from commercial products. It's more me, and what I think, than anything else. If in the future a shoe company was all like: We'll send you shoes to try on and can you write about them? I'd be like: I will be honest though, it may be free if it's totally shit I will say so.

Please remember that I actually don't buy any new clothes, and rarely buy makeup or other fash stuffs so that's perhaps also why I don't talk about products. I kinda don't tend to consume that much.

4. If the opportunity arose would you give a bad review of a product?

Yep, if it was shitful, of course.

5. Do you view your blog as a product? Where have you or do you hope to place it?

Nup, not a product. I view my blog as a conversation, and a community. I sometimes think I could sew full time, and make a living out of it, but it's more just thinking about the future and I love my day job and am confident in my career at the moment... so I'm not going to do that right away! Perhaps later on!

There it is! My first Friend Friday! The top photo is of flowers my friend gave me from her garden (cute!) and then another friend at work gave me this (real) flower and I wore it in my hair that day. THEN Husbie gave me some flowers today as well, so I'm totes in love with flowers at the moment!

Dongmen Lu Fabric Market

Happy Wednesday! Time to get some fabric inspiration from the Dongmen Lu Fabric Market here in Shanghai! Can't believe how quickly 201...
