Riding in big skirts

I was going to post about my baby crochet cardi today (that I made for my friend's baby!), but my Husbie got some awesome snaps and I just had to show you right away!

We rode into the city, watched 'Megamind' then did a little camera shopping (Husbie's fave, post Christmas) and I am totally amazed at how HAPPY I look!!!!

It took about half an hour of slow riding, so if we get fitter and better at it, it'll take no time at all!

BUT, a drama... Riding in big skirts without a mud flap or basket at the back means a dirty/greasy smear has appear on the edge of my dress (it's the one I made for Octoberfest, if you can recall) and I feel pretty bad, because I don't really care at all. I feel more bad that I'm like: "Oh well, it was an easy dress to make... I can chop the hem to make it shorter."

No Fear. That's what my helmet says, and darlings, I have no fear for stains.

As for my Christmas day dress, I should have made it a little more clear, I had to wear the stockings on the Wednesday prior to Christmas, but on Christmas day I was ok without the tights. It was kinda cold though for us in Melbs... a not really hot at all cloudy day. It's starting to look hot though, and after riding today in the glorious blue sky and sunshine, it now FINALLY feels like summer.

My new mother

I love you mum, but can I also have two mothers, and share you with Carrie Fisher?

Well, hi guys! That's my new mum (above) wearing some comfortware and generally being fun loving. Tonight my Husbie and I went to visit Carrie Fisher at her "home" (AKA the Athenaeum Theatre in Melbs) and we hung out for a very LOLworthy 2 hours. 

Not sure when I'll see "Mum" again, but she'll always be very close to my heart. 

I'm sure she's toured her show all over, but if you get the chance, it was SO gorgeous/real/heartful and freaking funny. There's probably a different jokes in her head every night, and a bunch of interesting tales to tell that she will never tell. We're off to read Postcards From the Edge, and sticky beak at the film again. xoxo

Vintage Videos - Va Va Voom

Good morning (for me right now!) and hope you're up and at 'em like me whatever you're doing today. I've already warned off a cold to my throat via a thai massage this week and really started getting my sewing room destashed (at this stage, just by making things, so more news on that later) so I am feeling pretty good. I just hope that I don't get more sick later! Isn't that the way though, you get on holidays and then get sick?

Not me though, no way, I'm thinking WAY too positively for that and getting some mean vintage-esque love via Beyonce!

My friend posted this to me, who is not a big vintage lover, but screamed Let's Go Vintage Shopping! I'd be interested in what you think though, because I feel that while a lot of Beyonce's style above is vintage, there are a lot of modern twists as well. She looks SO fabulous in the pin up style though, and shouldn't curvy be back by now with Beyonce leading the way?

A sneak peak of a documentary

Late last year, I got an email from a filmmaker called Nav, as she was doing some film stuff about the urban landscape artwork of KNITTING. I've posted a couple of times here about my laneways in Sydders, and I've done a bit of knitting myself through my backstreets. All street sign poles, and all stripey socks that look excellent on said poles. I watch tv, and I knit them and then I sew them up guerilla style.

Being online a LOT helped me discover these gorgeous outdoor things (I follow link after link after link after link - it's a hypertext dream I'm on), but I didn't try my own one until I read grrl+dog's blog, as she whips up socks and sockettes in my neighbourhood here in Sydney and perhaps knowing (and seeing for myself) someone else was doing it, helped me knit them up too.

So, back to darling filmmaker Nav, she came and visited me one afternoon and we chatted and you can watch it here (as a sneaky peaky look):



So that's what I look like, outside of photos. That's the first video of me ON THIS BLOG. ARGH! I feel a bit weird showing you cause this is what I am in real life and I'm so happy with how it looks and Nav's excellent, but I've gone a bit shy!

Booky News: Let the Right One In

OMG!

Just finished this book by John Ajvide Lindqvist yesterday:



And I've already started his next one (about zombies). But Let the Right One In is just GREAT! I saw the film down in Melbs, and heard there was so much more in the novel, and whilst the film is totally amazing and a piece of art in its own way, the book just is unstoppable reading. I haven't really read any scary stories for a while (since I read all the Stephen King's when I was like 12) so this was romantic, beautifully written and behind belief, but believable!

It's 6/50 in my Libary Thing's Book Challenge. I wish I'd said 25 books in a year... but I was wishful thinking, and I guess you never know! I've got til the end of November-ish, so who knows I could speed up if I keep reading John Ajvide Lindqvist's books.
