25/31 Romping in Thailand

Hi! This looks interesting! It's an amazing fabric from Japan that I was gifted by a good friend & colleague... her mum was moving and had oodles of fabric collected over the years, and they were both so gorgeous to share some darling bits and bobs with me. I know nothing really about the print except the edges said 'Kanedo print Made in Japan' (see my twitter photo) and it's a soft floaty cotton but feels rough and borderline synthetic. Great mix for summer holidays, I thought!

What gorgeous and unusual colours mixed up... and hey, this looks like a By Hand London Anna front, and an Anna back...

But WHAT?  WHUT?

It's an Anna JUMPSUIT! Yup, I frankensteined (that's a word right?) By Hand London's Anna with Simplicity's 7491 from 1976 using the tennis shorts (without the waistband) and it matched up pretty much perfect! 

YAY! Wish I had time before holidays to photog myself in it, but hoping I'll wear this in Thailand so you can see it for reals in an ideal location!

I tried a normal size 10 UK front bodice piece this time (instead of the Full Bust Adjustment I gave my first Anna attempt) and it's spot on. So weird, as I'm using my measurements (at the moment) of 36/27/36 so I'm really inbetween sizes all round. Oh well, it works here, so why question it!?

The Anna bodice is just so quick to make up, and the V Neck super flattering for the larger chest I'm sporting. I hadn't sewn the shorts before, but they were pretty straight forward... I chose the Simplicity pattern because the back zipper matched up with the Anna bodice's back zipper. Anyways, I plan to wear a little brown belt with my tan wedges and pretty much romp around the holiday whenever we need to wear proper clothing instead of bikinis!

And my new outfits waiting to be packed in the suitcase!

Sew Weekly: Tiger Stripes Pin Up

Why HELLO! I finally found these photos on my work computer, they're from the Pin Up week at the Sew Weekly. We'd not even really moved into our new home when we took these photos, so it was so much fun exploring the garden and finding all the gorgeous flowers!

The playsuit is just gorgeous, but I haven't had an occasion to wear it yet. The weather in Melbso has been heaps up and down, and IF it stays nice, I may wear it on the weekend.

It's a 1970s or early 1980s jumpsuit, that I cut off the legs to make it summer appropriate, and it has an elastic waistband. The fabric is from the Remnants Warehouse in Marrickville (or Alexandria - I forget which shop now) and I've had it for AGES as I've waited around for the perfect outfit.

Hope you're having a nice week! Are you getting ready for Christmas or the Holidays? We're not big gift givers in our family (however it's taken a few years to get into that mindset) so I'm not making anything special. I have only a few weeks of Sew Weekly left, and then I'm not sure what I'll do.

The Big Hair News for me: I'm heading to the hairdressers tonight, and actually will pick a new hair colour. I'm not sure what yet! I'm swinging between white, strawberry blonde, blonde, apricot and other shades of lighter orange. BUT I DON'T KNOW! What do you think?

Romper Outing

It was my darling bestie's birthday last week, so we did heaps of things together and it turned into a mini festival of events!

On Saturday, when it was really really hot, we went to the Gallery, and I brought out my romper jumpsuit:

I made this in 2009, when I was making something each day of July and only really wear it when I know I'm not going to be sitting in it all day. You practically have to de-robe in the bathroom!

The best thing was that when I got to the gallery for the birthday picnic, my little 1 year old friend and I were matching because she was wearing a little jersey striped romper in exactly the same colours!

Really excited because my Sew Weekly Chanel dress is progressing, and should be posted there, and here tomorrow!

WWW - Watcha Wearing Wednesday #10

AND, I also got the camera out for a WWW day (c/o Fi)! Doggie Darling too!


My new shoes are getting a workout! They're Melissa, and did you know they smell like bubblegum cause they're made of plastic?! I actually went to work (at 5am) with a big jacket and a scarf, but I left the house realising the temperature was no different outside to inside the house! Even at that time. We have experiences a total spring time day here in Sydney, I think it was supposed to be 23 degrees!

And, with attitude, with excitement for my fave romper (and only romper) I've ever made:

24/7 - Day Twenty- AKA Outfit #86

I'm certainly getting into the swing of blogging on this challenge month, I'm DYING to get to the computer and blog as soon as I finish my Outfits!

So I got home from work today, loved my darling doggie, and then headed straight into the sewing room for some fun:


I usually reserve patterns for the weekend, as they are occasionally more time consuming, and during the week you just wanna FREESTYLE! But I've been dying to make this romper for ages, and since they're all the rage, I better make it quick!

This pattern actually came with a darling little piece of tissue instructions (and it was so carefully folded - whoever owned this one, totally looked after it!) that helped you with "How to Make a Better Fitting Jumpsuit", and thus I followed the instructions:


And discovered I was smaller in the top bit, so adjusted my pattern accordingly. Then I realised I only had enough fabric (gorgeous cotton candy stripes) for everything but the facings, so hacked the white bits from this top (I'd actually bought from the op shop to use the floral bit):

And I sewed it up with NO problems whatsoever, rompers are just too adorable:

There are NO zippers, it's a totally pull on and go piece, but has the elastic around the middle. I haven't tried it on yet, so hopefully it fits:

I'll have to do the buttons on the shoulder tomorrow (3 each side, so I'll use stash buttons for that too) and the hems of the legs, but it's just so cute! I was totally inspired to do stripes by Jenny Wilson, cause when she toured Australia a few years back, she and her backing vocal gals were all clad in stripey jumpsuits/rompers. DARLING! So, I'm uber proud of this one (as you can tell) but I'm so sorry for the dusky photos. There seemed to be enough light, but I think I just missed it. Today was such a beautiful sunny winter's day, so it seemed apt to sew up this fun time outfit.
